ASH ROASTED PAPPADAM
പപ്പടം ചുട്ടത്
Simply smile and toss the Pappadam over
the burning coal.
Keep smiling and turn it upside down
with a twig, letting the ash smear all
over it.
When it puffs up and dark burnt patches
appear here and there, well, bring it out.
Indeed, time becomes reallly precious when
it comes to roasting Pappadam.
If you are careless enough to leave it there
for more than seven seconds you will end up
eating carbon.
Rice gruel (Kanji) is the bosom buddy of
ash roasted Pappadam.
From an ash roasted Pappadam, cooked with
adequate smile, love, and care--and a warm bowl
of Kanji nearby--well, heaven is only at a walking distance!

ASH ROASTED BANANA
നേന്ദ്രപ്പഴം ചുട്ടത്
Push the hesitating Banana deep into the heap of
red hot coal. Cover it with enough ash.
Let it burn there for a while. Do watch for that
irresistible aroma.
Turn it around with a twig. Let the simmering liquid,
oozing out, evaporate and the skin of the Banana
turn darker.
Then just roll it out!
The entire cooking often takes a full 10 minutes.
Oh, do devour the delight while it still steams and
fumes.
Think a thousand times before you throw away
the skin of the ash roasted Banana. Mmmm...there
is magic in it: but that is only for those who
really dare!

ASH ROASTED RED CHILLI
Take care, take care, you are about to roast the Red chilli.
The task demands nothing less than wisdom.
Let the burning coal be thoroughly "subdued."
Spread the Chillies over the coal. Then turn them
over, scattering them randomly, pretty rapidly.
Bring them all out the moment you get that
classic 'burnt' smell.
Your collection of ash roasted Red chilli
is ready to play havoc in your mouth!
The very smell of wisely roasted Red chilli is
capable of inducing a sharp itching of an
impatient hunger in you, even when you felt
"bellyful" only moments before.
You find yourself scanning around for something
like an elephant and feel like devouring it at one go.
Well, the vegetarians are likely to pounce upon
anything green and motionless.
Ash roasted Red chilli loves to accompany
any type of food--A to Z--coaxing and guiding
it all the way through your entire
digestive system!

More ash-smeared delights are yet to roll out
from the primitive kitchen.
